Are these licorice candies in the states?

One of the things I miss most from the states is all the yummy mexian food. You just can't get it here, and if you do find a mexican restaurant it's overpriced and uninspiring. The supermarkets usually have a small mexican section with old el paso stuff and just the boring thick blah tortillas they make. The other day my life as a kiwi changed when I found great mexican style tortillas that, although small, are just what we want in a tortilla. I was so excited, bought some and daydreamed on my drive home about the yummy cheese crisp with avocado I was going to make for kris and I. When I arrived home the tortillas were nowhere to be found and I can only guess they were placed on top of the car in my dreamy excitement. So we finally bought some more and ate lots of yummy mexican food yesterday. I made Kris his first quesedilla and then had people over later for tostadas, as you can only barely see above through the blurriness. It's pretty wild how, well it makes sense though really, kiwis have not ever, if maybe once or twice, eaten mexican food. It's pretty fun making yummy food that no one has had before and I'm remembering all the mexican food I like to cook. My friends might all end up a bit confused if they go to Mexico one day and wonder why sprouts and hummus isn't served with their burrito- it's mexican with a twist! mmmmm

Round home

Sorry about the darkness, evening time and no flash don't seem to produce the best photos : )

This is my new car. No name yet... It's so nice having an economical car after driving my van. I can go anywhere!! ahhhh the freedom!

The front of our house, with Rua looking awfully big. Yeah next ones won't be so bloomin' blurry!

I couldn't help documenting this moment in time... when I did a load of laundry only because I was just so excited to use my new laundry basket. It's the simple things...

A steel rose Kris made for me... ooooh

This is our living room. Kris built it onto the house a before winter (pretty handy! mmmm I love it!) In the back left is Kris's workshop and the horseshoes on the fence is a gate to our friends' place.

Next I'll post more house pictures and maybe even a pic of my new compost bin I made yesterday. Ah simply loving being a domestic goddess!

This is our local paper that comes out at the begining of each month. In this month's issue there is an article about a new restaurant that had a grand opening a few weeks ago. This is a big event for our area because there are not many businesses out this way (we are about 20 mins drive into the big city.)

Kris and I went, as is documented in the news.

It was pretty funny because we forgot about the reporter taking our picture and when we were in the local shop yesterday some random guy looked at us and said "just like in the picture". We had no idea what he was talking about, each thinking he knew the other, until the lady behind the counter told us about the picture. I guess we're kinda famous now! hehe

Mates and Me

Kris and I a few months ago. We don't have to bundle up like this anymore- woohoo! Spring started yesterday!

Annie and I in Golden Bay. Back in June Anne (a friend who was visiting from the states for a few months) and I ventured to Golden Bay for a week's holiday. Golden Bay is in the north part of the south island, where I stayed for the first few months when I first came to NZ in 2004.

Anne and Kaya takin it all in

This is on the garage at my old house. A nice spot to relax with a cup of tea and practice the art of chilling out.

getting friendly

Here are some pics from a night at my old place. Kris's dog Kaya and lil Rua have taken a while in their relationship to even get to this point. It's obvious how much they love each other they just don't quite know how to express it, yet...

Slight ignoring, pretending not to care...

Now that I'm gone the space is free to make a move. Rua is playing hard to get while Kaya contemplates her next move...

Slowly gravitating toward each other neither one dares to go the next step, while casual eye contact reveals the love...

They still are yet to spoon.... I'll send updates...
